Does anyone have thoughts on this area? i have found a really nice appartment, but I'm unsure of the area, never having been there. I love the 18th, but this is right on the eastern edge. TIA
Recently, I was watching a video on real estate in Paris and the host was down on this area because it is stuck between two large sets of train tracks and she thought it has very low prospects for increasing in value. I've been in that neighborhood and I agree. You will get a look at a less touristy, very diverse part of Paris where real people live and that can be fun but I would say that the area is neither charming nor safe. Would I stay there on vacation? Probably not if I could afford to stay elsewhere unless the apartment is so spectacular that it outweighs the location and I planned to cab or uber home at night. But, I guess it also depends on what you plan to do in Paris. I could seeing staying there if you plan to do a lot of really non-typically touristic things during your trip.
This is probably one of the worst parts of Paris to stay in. The immediate vicinity of Marché de l'Olive is charming, but go 200 yards in any direction and it gets pretty run down. Also, not 100% safe for a single female at night (risk of harassment). Up until last year, there was a significant drug issue too (crack addict encampment at Jardins d'Eole). They moved, but the situation remains volatile.
I would absolutely try to stay elsewhere.
Have you done a Google walk around the neighborhood?
Thanks for your replies. I did do a walk around and it looked okay. I did find other info that indicated the Metro was not a good place to be at night. So we have passed on this place, and found one in the 8th. Thanks again everyone!
