18 hours in Paris, where to go & stay?

Hi,
I’m arriving at CDG on June 19th at 2pm and departing June 20 st noon. This is the last part of my trip which starts at Paris for three nights where I’ll be staying near Étienne Marcel.

I’m thinking of spending the night in Paris again and stay in the same area, but was wondering if you would recommend me to spend the afternoon and stay somewhere else.

Thanks!

I would stay at the airport for one night and just go into Paris for the afternoon evening. You would be leaving Paris at 8 am for your flight if you stay in the city.

I left Paris at 8 am a few weeks ago - if you're a morning person it's no big deal. I was staying on Ile Saint Louis at the Hotel des Deux Iles. My tendency would be to pick another location just for something different but you may find you prefer a place where you already know where to buy coffee and sandwiches.

Thanks for the suggestion everyone. I may not be a morning person on that day, so airport hotel would be best. I just had a quick look at the available hotels and it seems that a taxi ride would be needed from/to airport. This would include going to Paris in the afternoon after checking in.

Do you know of any hotels near the airport within a walking distance access so that I can save on transit time when going to the city and when flying in/out?

Thanks!

We recently had a 20 hour layover at CDG. We stayed at one of the hotels that is on the airport property. We checked in and then took the train into Paris for the night. It was lovely. At the end of the night, we took the train to the hotel and it made for far less stress the next morning. Enjoy!

Hi Vansau. There are several hotels AT the airport - no taxi needed - literally a one or two minute walk to the free airport subway and the RER into town. Two are Ibis hotels next to each other. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Bob! I was able to get into the citizenM hotel. Any idea if that’s within minutes of the airport/airport subway?

Thanks!

Thanks for the information here. I just booked one night at CitizenM in August when we arrive in Paris. Perfect for our one night recoup before renting a car and traversing across France to the Strasbourg! Merci, Mary

Hi Vansau. From their website, it looks like it's in same area as the Ibis I am familiar with but maybe a block or two farther from the airport train / RER; their website says a 7 minute walk. Should work fine. Enjoy your trip!

When you have this kind of layover the key is to be very selective. What is your dream of Paris? Do that one thing and have a nice dinner (book ahead) and then after dinner take a stroll around Notre Dame after dark -- it is one of the great sights in the world. Perhaps have a drink with a view or do a Seine Cruise (there is a boat that launches under Pont Neuf which is fairly close to getting back to St. Michel Notre Dame and the RER B to the airport. ) Or you might want a long leisurely dinner and that stroll and then to hop on the RER B nearby. L'Initial which is quite close to Notre Dame is excellent and their 48 Euro tasting menu is wonderful. We paid nearly as much for dinner for much less at Rotisserie La Tour d'Argent also nearby. (this is the 'cheap' sister to the very pricey La Tour d'Argent next door). There are also brasserie on Ile St. Louis where you could have a meal and be in a pretty part of Paris. You could buy a bottle of champagne and drink it down by the water on Ile St. Louis. Be discreet with bottles; technically not legal but in the category of everyone does it and if not rowdy no harm no foul. The views are just beautiful; a very romantic way to end a brief Paris visit.

We had a similar layover in London one time; AA forced us on our own nickel to stay overnight but would not allow us to break the trip there for several days. We were at a hotel at Victoria station at about 5 pm. We had fish and chips in a pub and then took in a Gilbert and Sullivan performance at the Savoy and then took an evening stroll across Westminster Bridge which was stunning at night. We got the. Gatwick express at Victoria station to the airport the next morning. It was a laid back fun little bite of London. Less is more when you have little time -- do something that you can savor.

With a noon flight you could easily stay in the city and take a cab or train in the morning and be there by 9. but booking a hotel AT not near the airport like the Novotel for example or Ibis, leaving your stuff and then doing into the city by train for the evening would also be sensible.

Great advice from Janet.
Yes, Citizen M is at the airport in T3. When you come out of the airport shuttle train, you’ll see signs. Citizen M is just beyond the Hilton. Novotel, Ibis are in the opposite direction, also at T3.
