17th Arrondissement

Good Morning!

My life long dream is coming true and I am finally heading to Paris for my honeymoon in August 2016. We just booked our hotel and flights and now the planning begins. We are staying in the 17th on Wagram and our first day will be exploring that area and the 8th. Any gems I should know about beside Parc Monceau?

There is a farmer's market on Rue de Poncelet. http://www.smarterparis.com/reviews/rue-poncelet-marche/ We stayed at the Hotel de Deux Avenues and it seemed this market was open most days. We had some lovely long dinners on Wagram. I loved this entire neighborhood as it seemed to be a relatively real neighborhood in Paris. Have a great time! Wray

PS. My daughter lived in this neighborhood for approximately 9 month about 9 years ago with a host family. If you have any specific questions I can ask her to see if she has an answer. PM me if you do.

Kristinm, you've also got the Bois de Boulogne nearby. We spent part of an afternoon rowing a boat around the Lac Inferieur and it was a blast. There's a rental fee and you need to leave a fifty euro deposit, it was great. The Foundation Louis Vuitton is there, too-it had not yet opened when we were there, but it's a stunning building to see, even if you don't go in. There is a Velib location too, in case you want to ride a bike through the area.

Also close by is the quirky Museum of Counterfeits, which I recommend. Examples there of real and fake Chanel, clothing, car parts, champagne, etc, quite interesting.

Here's a gallery from our day in the area:

There is a good restaurant in the 18th. The owner has Jazz on Sat. nights. Free admission. They usually pass a hat during intermission. If the restaurant part is open, food is good. It also is a Brassarie, which serves normal Brassarie foods. It is called Le Jazz y Jazz. it is on 12 ave de las Prt. Montmarte, 75018, Paris.

The Nissim de Camondo museum next to Parc Monceau. It's a mansion formerly owned by a wealthy French family and is a 10 on a scale of 1-10 if you like visiting stately homes.

I'd second Nissim Camondo -- think it is in the 8th but close enough.

The great thing about staying in the 17th which we have done twice for two months each time, is that there is not much of tourist interest in the district. The Arc Du Triomphe is at one edge, Parc Monceau borders it but there is very little otherwise. We find that a feature not a bug.

On my visit in Fall 2014, I tried to see many of the parks within Paris' borders and Parc Monceau was one of my favorites. It's very much a neighborhood park, with lots of families enjoying themselves. Walk all around the inner border and across the center too, looking for interesting vistas, installations, etc. I prefer staying in the outer arrondissements as it feels more like living in Paris, among the citizens, rather than just visiting. Bon Voyage!
