15 days: Rome, Lyon, Paris. Thoughts?

Hello all! My wife and I are young professionals, and we've already booked a CDG roundtrip flight with miles. We love food, champagne, and exploring cities. Inbound, I'm considering booking a non-connecting flight to Rome to enjoy a small piece of Italy. (We'll save the rest for another trip focused on Italy). Return to Marseilles, and catch a train to Lyon for a couple nights. Finally, spend a week in Paris with some day trips to satisfy our tastes.

Does this itinerary seem logical? Thanks!

There is a Rome to Lyon Direct flight on Easy Jet. Otherwise I do not understand why Marseille is listed.

Hey, thanks for reminder, I checked the FCO-LYS route again. However, I chose the FCO-MRS route because even with train it saves >$200...

Paris is great, but I'd suggest taking a day from Paris and adding it to Lyon.

Otherwise, take the day you spend in Lyon and add it to Rome.

I agree with Adam: You're incurring considerable extra travel time in order to have not much more than one day in Lyon. It's a very nice city (and a large one) where you could enjoy a lot more time than that. And three nights in Rome is quite short. I wouldn't try to squeeze in Lyon.

Is April 10 the day you depart from the US/Canada or the day you land in Paris? If it's your departure day, that means your first night in Rome is your first (jetlagged) night in Europe. That makes your planned three nights there very, very short.

Thanks for the suggestions, the Rome leg is just meant to give us a taste of Italy. We'll be back.

I'll add another day to Lyon, that will be nice since the 16th is my wife's birthday. We can enjoy a nice birthday dinner in Lyon.

If you are going all the way to Rome, I strongly suggest three full days there (meaning four nights). Are you planning on just hanging around the airport upon arrival until the flight to Rome--you will want to allow a wide margin since it sounds like it's no on the same ticket. I would not do Mont St. Michel for just one night, either.

I actually think your itinerary looks pretty good, given what you want to hit. Could we all use an extra day in any one of these places? Of course! But will this give you a taste of all three, plus Mont St Michel? Yes! (I also think an overnight at Mont St Michel is fine. I don't know that you would need really more time there than what you'll have on arriving and then departing the next day).

You might consider stopping at Giverny, Monet's Gardens, on the drive back from Mont St Michel to the airport in Paris. Depending on how the weather is, but it might be pretty nice in late April!

I have not been to France, so maybe there is something I am missing, but it seems it would be more efficient to go from Lyon to Mt St Michel and then have all your Paris days together at the end.

Noted, I had considered Giverny & Versaille as a trip. I'll look into the opening hours on the way back from MSM. I'll also look to see the time/cost on a Lyon to Rennes route, to see if it makes sense to go to MSM straight from Lyon.

I've purchased my flights CDG-FCO (leaving 5:15 hours of space), FCO-MRS-Train to Lyon tickets. Still need to purchase northbound train tickets from Lyon.

Thanks for feedback!
