15 days in France (6 in Paris)

Looking for advice on hotels in Paris close to Arc/Champs Élysées / Eiffel Tower area for 2 women for around $300/nite. Friend also wants to go to Champagne area. Is Bordeaux doable or should we try to combine Dijon/Beaune and then back to Paris to fly out? I have been to all of these locations but very long ago. We are traveling in mid-September.
Thanks for any suggestions !

Bordeaux is logistically feasible, about 5 hours from Paris by train. If you go fly home from there.

However, Burgundy is great and also works pretty well with Champagne if you are thinking of driving (a good way to see some countryside). Also if it works for you there is an AM train that will deliver you directly from Dijon to Charles deGaulle by 10:30, enough time for an afternoon flight home.

Brilliant time of year for a trip like this, have fun!

In that price range, you should have plenty of selection. Our tours have occasionally used Hotel Splendid Etoile near the Arc de Triumph. Closer to the Eiffel tower and on that side of the river, Rick's guidebook recommends many hotels in the Rue Cler neighborhood.

Thank you... What is the Rue Cler area like ? My friend would like to walk out of the hotel and be in the midst of activity but I think Latin Quarter would be too much. We are "young, active" 60 yr olds willing to walk and enjoy!

Has anyone heard of Hotel Laperle in the St Germaine area? Or Louis VII?
Also suggestions for lodging in Champagne and Beaune ? Thanks.

The Eiffel Tower/rue Cler/Arc/Champs Elysee areas are not central.

The 4th (Marais & Ile St. Louis), 5th (Latin Quarter) and 6th (St. Germain - no "e") are the most central areas of Paris with Notre Dame at the absolute center (all distances in France are measured from ND)... many areas/sites most tourists want to see are easily walkable from these areas.

My favorite neighborhood of all is Ile St. Louis, the little island right next to Notre Dame. It's like a little village, charming and surrounded by the Seine river and amazing views. There are 3 great hotels on Ile St. Louis that fit your budget: Hotel St. Louis en l'Isle, Hotel de Lutece and Hotel des Deux Iles. I highly recommend all of them.
