Accommodations in Paris

This Spring my husband and I are looking to spend 10 days in Paris. No clue where to stay. Rent an apt., hotel, etc. Nice but on a budget. Location a plus too. Please help. Thanks!!

For that length of time, I'd definitely recommend an apartment. Check out vacationinparis.com. We've rented from them twice and have been very happy.

I agree that for 10 days an apartment is the way to go. Hotel rooms are generally pretty small. An apartment will allow you and your husband a bit more space, a kitchen if for nothing else to make coffee or tea in the morning, and most have a washer. That will help you pack light. Apartments are often less than a hotel. Many will discount the price for a stay of one week or more.

I generally recommend that especially for first time visitors the most central areas are the 4th, 5th & 6th arrondissements. If you don't know what that means, you need to get a guidebook and a map of Paris. The closer to the river you are, the more central you are.

I have rented 3 apartments in Paris, after staying in a hotel my first time there. I found all 3 on vrbo.com (Vacation Rental By Owner). I've also used homeaway.com for rentals, and for my trip this year I have rented a couple of places using airbnb.com. The first 2 apartments I rented in Paris were in the Latin Quarter (5th arr.). The first apartment I rented was fantastic. It is now renting for $1800. per week. I paid much less than that and it is now out of my budget. The second apartment is no longer for rent. The place we will stay in during our visit in October is in the 12th, but on the edge of the 4th and near the river. To give you an idea of price, we are paying €110 per night for a 5 night stay. If we were staying any longer it would be reduced to €105 per night. If you would like more information about these apartments, let me know.

Sometimes the outer arrondissements are less expensive. What you have to factor into the price is how much time and money will it cost to take the metro everywhere. That's why I think being central is important.
