13-day Itinerary: Request for Feedback - Parents' First Time in France

Hi all,
I'm a long time reader, first time poster on this forum and would appreciate suggestions and feedback on the following itinerary. This spring I will be meeting my parents in Paris and traveling with them for 13 days (inclusive of 2 travel days). My parents are in their mid- to late-70s and have not had a lot of opportunity to travel outside the US and have never been to France. I have spent a considerable amount of time in France and want to make this trip as magical for them as possible. My parents are in fine health for their age but will not be up for hours on end of walking. I had them do a lot of thinking about where they would like to go and what they would like to see and after many discussions, Rick Steves's TV shows, and guide books they asked to see Provence and Normandy with Paris not being a high priority. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Wed. Mar. 27 – arrive at CDG at 6:10a. You may not be able to check into your room unless you reserve a room the night before. Make sure your hotelier or Airbnb knows you’ll arrive early morning to avoid your reservation from being cancelled. However, if you’re staying at a hotel, drop off your bags then taxi to Ile de la Cité and then another taxi to Place des Vosges. Take a taxi back to your hotel and most likely your room will be ready.

sbostrig,
I just turned 80, and been to France 3 times since turning 70, so I can put myself in your parents' place. After a flight from the U.S., don't be surprised if they don't want to do too much walking around. Fit in some cafe-sitting/people-watching time on that first day. Their body clocks may need a day or two to adjust. Remember to allow lots of time for getting up and getting to Gare de Lyon for your train. I find Avignon to be a disappointment and would stay in Arles or Nimes, but it is probably better for car rental and transportation.
And must you return to CDG to get your other rental car? Would Orly be easier and closer? Does a TGV go there from Avignon? If you are going to CDG because it is a TGV stop, would Gare de Lyon work out better? You could taxi to La Defense or somewhere closer to the outskirts of Paris to rent a car. Just wondering. I don't like to spend any more time at CDG than I need to. And it puts you farther away from your next destination(s), and may add another hour of travel time. Of course, you have probably checked your options,m but this is perhaps something you may want to revisit.
