There are 4 of us traveling to Paris in October. We prefer to just use public transportation and not rent a car. We have 4 nights planned in Paris. We were considering going to Brittany area, perhaps Saint Malo for 2 nights and visiting Mont St. Michael and then to Avignon and Nice for 3 nights each. We fly home from Nice. I am finding the transportation piece difficult in Brittany and wondering if it is worth the time and effort for just 2 nights. If we were to skip that is there another stop recommended that might be easier or better to just extend Avignon or Nice and do more day trips? We are in our 30’s and 40’s and used to lots of walking and enjoy eating and drinking in the local establishments. Any suggestions would be great!
You might enjoy a day or two in Lyon. Interesting sites, phenomenal food great transit system.
I think 2 days (including travel time) is very short for the area around St-Malo, and 3 days is short for Nice and Avignon/Provence. I'd postpone eastern Brittany until you can spend more time there and allocate those days to Nice (so many side trips) or Nice and Avignon.
I do like Lyon a lot, but I'd opt for better visits to the Riviera and Provence over too-short visits to three areas.
I 100% agree with acraven. Travelling from St Malo to Avignon takes a whole day: too much effort in your case.
Best to focus on Paris + Southeastern France, reallocating 1 night to Avignon and 1 night to Nice.
I agree -- between Brittany and the south you'll be spreading too thin. After Paris, take the train to Lyon and/or Avignon, then Nice. Avignon is a good public transportation hub for other parts of Provence. Or, if Brittany is a priority, skip the south this time and split those days between Paris, Brittany, and maybe Normandy.
Thanks for your comments all. We are going to skip Brittany this time. After looking at all the easy day trip options around Avignon and Nice, seems like better use of our time!
