12 Hours in Paris

Wife and I will be making our first international trip together in September.
On our return flight home, we will have 12 hour layover at CDG. 8:30pm arrival, 8:30am departure.
We've never been to Paris and want to take advantage of our time there, if it makes sense.

Being that we arrive later in the evening, would it be worth venturing out in town? Specifically considering the Eiffel Tower.

What would be our best transit options? We would consider checking our luggage going home so all we'd have is a small backpack/personal item with us.

Suggestions? TIA

Allowing for the time it will take you to clear immigration in both directions, and the possible 3 hour check in, would you consider a taxi or private transfer to take you from the airport and drive round the centre of Paris, passing all the sights.
Obviously, all the main attractions will be closed but In September, the lights should be on so you will get a nice view.
You may be able to get a meal - if you google "24 hour restaurants Paris" several come up, including the fabulous "Au Pied de Cochon".
Others may be able to advise on restaurants near the sirport that are open 24 hrs.
There are some "day hotels" where you can have a room for a few hours.
