Hi. We are a family of 4, including 2 teenagers (15 & 16) and considering staying in the 11th in mid August. We have all been to Paris before, but not in August. We aren't planning to visit the main tourist sites this time (other than walking along the Seine). We are looking for a lively neighborhood. My main question is: will the 11th (close to the Saint-Ambroise subway) be significantly quieter than at other times of year?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
August is one of my favorite months to be in Paris because the pace is so much more relaxed. Hotels typically offer good discounts and there are still plenty of restaurants/cafés open. All of Paris is quieter than at other times of the year other than around popular tourist venues.
Just make sure that you have AC. I love being warm but even I have needed AC in August in Paris every year for the past 6 years. Over in that area, you might be more likely to find some restaurants and other small business closed for vacation during August than you would over near let's say Odeon metro station but it should not create a huge issue for your trip.
