Has anyone stayed in the 10th arr in Paris?
If so, any recommendations for reasonably priced (I know that is subjective) hotels
Thank you
The Hotel Soft in rue des Vinaigriers is my regular Paris base. Within walking distance of Gare de l'Est, towards the St Martin Canal.
I cannot recommend specific hotels, but some parts of the 10th are better than others. I would recommend that you aim for a hotel south of this line, to avoid the Gare du Nord area and the Stalingrad area. Along the canal north of the line is still quite nice, but not as lively.
We have stayed at Le Citizen a couple of times - the last time was in September 2019.
It's north of the line mentioned above and is quite close to Gare du Nord but Hotel Hor is a very good hotel and a good value. It is on a relatively busy street so there might be some noise depending on which way the room faces. Also north of the line but close to the canal is Le Robinet d'Or. I know people who love Hotel Terminus Nord which is right across the street from Gare du Nord (so north of the line mentioned above). South of the line, take a look at Hotel Le Milie Rose but, don't even consider it if you do not like soft pink and other pastels or neutral colors. I also second Hotel Le Citizen (my daughter who is in her mid twenties loves it there).
The line I suggested above is merely a guideline, if you find good hotels immediately north of it, it is still fine! Gare du Nord (the station itself) can be shady sometimes, and some streets are shabby, but it is not a "bad" area either.
I always stay in the 10th Arr., have been doing so since 1987. This past trip I decided to stay in other hotels other than always in my "old stand-by" due to its expense...pretty high. These 2 other hotels are still in the 10th.
Lots of visitors stay in the 10th, otherwise I should not be seeing "complet" i signs on hotel entrance doors or in the Reception.
This coming trip will see me back in the 10th.
Do avoid the Stalingrad area, especially at night and going solo. The 10th Arr. is nothing like the Stalingrad immediate area. Still, I've never been accosted, bothered, pestered , etc, etc as a solo senior walking all over , obviously , with the dead give-away of a tourist, an outsider.
