Hello! We are frequent travelers to Paris, and are looking to explore Brittany for a week before heading to Paris in late April. We expect to fly into CDG and train to Rennes, and spend the first night there. Then we've booked a B&B in Dinan for 3 nights to explore St. Malo, Mt Saint Michelle, Dinard, Cap Frehel, the Pink Granite Coast, etc in day trips. We were thinking of heading south for a couple nights to check out Vannes, Pont Aven and Carnac. Does that make sense? It won't be beach weather, but we love to hike, explore charming villages, great food, etc. Where would you recommend staying for a couple nights as a good base? Any further suggestions for this itinerary? Thanks for your input!
Anywhere along thePink Granite Coast has great walking, Cap Frehel is really nice. Vitre is close by and worth a visit. By all means visit Ile-du-Brehat if the weather permits. From Dinan you can take the ferry down river to St Malo. Camaret-sur-Mer is a small port on the Crozon Peninsula, Pont Aven ,Carnac, Quimper an embarrassment of riches in Brittany.

We stayed in Hotel Tumulus in Carnac a few years ago and will be staying there again this summer. The hotel has an excellent restaurant and from the hotel you can walk to the alignments. Pont Aven is an hour from there, Quimper is 90 minutes, Vannes is 30 minutes.
Your plan sounds good to me. I recommend looking at the drive from Rennes to Dinan a little closer. I’ve found driving in the region to be very easy. I assume your initial night stay is to avoid driving.
Also, we did a day trip from Dinan to the Rose Granite coast. It was a long day but the coastal walk was worth it. Just use a good weather day for it as it would be a shame to drive that far to get rained on much.
If I were going back to the south I would stay in Auray. Last time we stayed in a smaller nearby village which was ok but Auray has more stuff going on.
