Hi, I would like to know if the following can be done in 1 full day:
1) Visit Aiguille du Midi early in the morning, take the Panoramic Mont Blanc cable car to the Italian side and return.
2) Take Montenvers train to see Mer de Glace and return.
I'm assuming #1 can be done by noon and #2 can be done in the afternoon.

My understanding is it takes all day to travel from one side to the other. Expect lines with long wait times because you won't be the only one.
I've done #1 but as a one-way trip from Italy to France. It was not an all-day thing at all, but was a good 4 hours or so. Its a fantastic trip, but the problem with doing it as a return is that there is very little to see or do in La Palud (the Italian station), so its really just 8 hours in a cable car looking at the same scenery twice.
That said, to go to Chamonix and not do the Aiguille du Midi would be a crime. Do the Montenvers-Mer de Glace in the morning (its only a 2-3 hour thing), then in the afternoon do the Aiguille up and back,
