1/2 day (+) in Bayeux?

Appreciate all the input on my prior thread but we've now finalized our travel plans. We will arrive in Bayeux by train at 11 am and have all day until dinner at 2000. We don't plan on having a car as we are taking an Overlord private tour the next day. I'd like to revisit suggestions for our day in Bayeux, understanding the Tapestry won't be there. In particular, I'm debating whether to rent a car for the afternoon.

As it stands, we have only the Cathedral, the Museum of the Battle of Normandy and wandering the streets. We are doing Overlord # 2 (stops listed below) and we've already received helpful input on how to customize that. But are there other sites close to Bayeux not on the list that are worth renting a car to see on our own during our 1/2 day?

Thanks

Overlord tour

In addition to the above in Bayeux, there is a scenic river path and the city center museum (not the War Memorial).

I spent nearly 2 hours at the War Memorial. Small, but lots to read and absorb if you are very interested in the topic. There is also a small WWII era British cemetery walkable from the War museum.

I wouldn’t find it necessary to drive any where, but that’s me. Caen is 15 minutes by train if Bayeux doesn’t seem to have enough. I think Caen is the main place for car rentals - at least when I was there last year.

You're only going to have 8 hours, you won't have time for a car. The cathedral and the Normandy museum are a pretty good walk from the train station, and I assume you'll also go to your hotel and drop your luggage? It's not a flat town, you'll get a good walk in. And if you rented a car it would have to be back by 6pm, that really doesn't give you a lot of time. And parking sucks in Bayeaux, especially the old town.
