1/2 day (+) in Bayeux?

Appreciate all the input on my prior thread but we've now finalized our travel plans. We will arrive in Bayeux by train at 11 am and have all day until dinner at 2000. We don't plan on having a car as we are taking an Overlord private tour the next day. I'd like to revisit suggestions for our day in Bayeux, understanding the Tapestry won't be there. In particular, I'm debating whether to rent a car for the afternoon.

As it stands, we have only the Cathedral, the Museum of the Battle of Normandy and wandering the streets. We are doing Overlord # 2 (stops listed below) and we've already received helpful input on how to customize that. But are there other sites close to Bayeux not on the list that are worth renting a car to see on our own during our 1/2 day?

Thanks

You're only going to have 8 hours, you won't have time for a car. The cathedral and the Normandy museum are a pretty good walk from the train station, and I assume you'll also go to your hotel and drop your luggage? It's not a flat town, you'll get a good walk in. And if you rented a car it would have to be back by 6pm, that really doesn't give you a lot of time. And parking sucks in Bayeaux, especially the old town.

I don't know what day you are visiting, but there's a nice flea market on Sundays.

There is also the little tourist "train" to give you an overview of the city.

At the time of my 2016 visit, the tourist office ran a walking tour; at least some of the tours were in English. I don't know whether you'd be able to catch an afternoon departure, but that was a good introduction to the town. I agree that the invasion museum is good for at least two hours.

Everything that KGC said. You don't really have that much time to get a car and get to anything, and just enjoying Bayeux for eight hour will be fine.
