We are looking for recommendations for a vineyard to stay in near Lyon before embarking on a Viking cruise. Does anyone have personal experience with any vineyards?
It depends on how far away you want to venture from Lyon.
Less than an hour south is the Northen Rhone (Cote Rotie, Condrieu). I don't know of any places to stay but I am sure there should be.
A few hours north is Beaune where there are lots of places to stay in the Burgundy vineyard area.
We spent 3 weeks in Lyon. We used Olivier for 2 small group tours and he also arranged a one day private tours in the burgundy vineyards. He was great to work with. I know he can arrange overnights at nearby vineyards as we picked up a couple during one of our tours. Highly recommend working with him,
How far away from Lyon do you want to stay? Are you driving or training?
We are hoping not to rent a car, so I guess we’ll be using the trains. I haven’t done any research yet on transportation. I was hoping we could get a taxi to a vineyard B& B and just relax for a couple of days; and then getting a taxi to our Viking ship. So it would be better to be close to Lyon I guess.
Here is the Tour guide we went with

Great trip and he probably knows of places to stay as he is from Rhône area.
Vienne is a very nice town a short train/bus ride from Lyon. From there are the Cote de Rhone vineyards. It is a very nice village to explore on its own. I would suggest reaching out to either of the above guides and see what arrangements they can make. I know Olivier arranged a dinner/overnight/breakfast at a vineyard in the Beaujolais area for a couple. We picked them up and they were on our 1/2 day Beaujolais tour. He can arrange transportation from Lyon to the Vineyards. If I recall nothing is just outside of Lyon. An Uber or Taxi would likely be fairly expensive. You have a lot of options as far as what type of wine you might be interested in burgundy/Beaujolais/cote de rhone.
The nearest vineyards to Lyon are probably Beaujolais to the northwest and the northern Rhone to the south. There is bus transportation from Lyon to some of the northern Rhone villages (such as Chavannay), but I don't know what the schedules are like. We spent a little time in Chavannay, and visited a couple of wineries, but I don't know anything about winery B&Bs there. As to Beaujolais, we stayed in Bois d'Oingt last year for a couple of days. It's a lovely area, and probably the closest part of Beaujolais to Lyon. However, I don't know what public transportation to/from Lyon is like.
