I would like Rick Steve's audience to NEVER EVER Rent a property from Ukio for the following reasons! I am a seasoned traveler and have rented apartments many times in Paris and have never had problems with VRBO or AirBnb. To start, Ukio gave us the instructions for picking up the keys to the apartment at a shop which was quite a distance from the apartment and entirely wrong. The shopkeeper said Ukio hadn’t left keys there for months and rudely asked us to leave. In calling Ukio to get this straightened out, we could only reach the sales office in Barcelona which gave us another number with only a recording. Two hours later we were able to track down the keys - the beginning of terrible communication. We arrived at the apartment building to find that the entire interior of the building was being reconstructed ! So together to the fourth floor apartment we had to climb through scaffolding and wet plaster walls. We rented the apartment for one month and we and our guests had to climb through this mess for the entire month. I would never live through Sheetrock construction in my own home much less on vacation. This apartment should NEVER have been rented during this construction. Every time I tried to call Ukio I would get a recording. Two weeks into our stay, Santiago in ‘’ customer retention’’ called me and wanted photos which I sent. Our rental was $6,000.00 and he said the only thing he could offer us was a $400.00 refund, hardly consistent with the problem. Ukio also wanted a $2,000.00 deposit on signing which we did. We left the apartment in perfect condition and have been told that it takes 30 days to get the deposit back. Clearly Ukio is an investment firm using our money and a totally incompetent real estate firm with miserable customer service.
