Restaurants that have really good escargots?

Hello travelers,

I'll be in France in May and am anxious to find restaurants that serve escargots. I will be travelling solo and visiting Paris, Nice, Lyon and Annecy. I appreciate all the info you can provide!

Escargots are not a complicated thing. That said, I'd wait until you're in Lyon and go to a place that looks more like a bar than a restaurant to order them. Some good Rhône wine and some good bread will complete the experience.

Or maybe that's for grenouilles. Whatever. You'll be fine. Don't be afraid.

Bob, a man after my own heart! Yes, escargot arre simple things, a bit of garlic butter, fresh bread and some robust red wine and that's all. Who needs a posh location!

I'd suggest going on gut reaction, if the place looks good go for it.

We had really good snails at Le Bousquet in Paris. It's near Rue Cler, 46 Avenue Bosquet.

I had great escargot at La Petit restaurant on Rue Cler St. back in September. Just about any decent cafe in France will serve escargot because it is like the national dish in France. I would also try duck, it is usually excellent in France! Lastly, you have never had "Creme Brûlée" until you have had it in a French cafe!!

Oh I don't know, I've had an exceptional crème brûlée in London that knocked socks off any that I've had in France.

Okay JC you have challenged me to to a contest of "the best Creme brûlée in Europe," I suggest we meet in London at a restaurant of your choice and have some at noon then take the Eurostar to Paris for the supper meal and again the Creme Brûlée ! May the best dessert win!!!!!!

(just remember that I have to travel from Kansas, so I might be a little late, LOL)

One of the most affordable good restaurant in Paris is still the 'Bouillon Chartier', 7 Rue du Faubourg Montmarttre Metro & Bus 20 'Grands Boulevards' stop.
This is one of the remaining 'Brasserie' that has not yet been gentrified, and most of the main courses are about 10 Euros, with the escargots 6 for 6 Euros. Come early e.g. 7 PM, as the line to get in can be VERY long around french eating hours; be ready to share a table in the true 'Brasserie' fashion, and don't forget to order the decadent 'Profiterolle' aka cream puff with ice cream covered by hot chocolate for dessert !

Thanks, Vince. We're going to be staying in Montmartre next spring, so I'm paying attention to food recommendations.

BTW, I can't believe I didn't mention La Terrasse du 7-iéme for snails. We had our BOE farewell dinner there this year, and those may have been the best snails we've ever had. The ones at Bosquet were not quite as good, but were cheaper. (good chicken and fish at Le Bosquet as well.)
