Hello,
Husband and I will be back to France for the 5th time, but this time with a Rick Steves tour, our first. We will be heading to the Paris, Loire valley, Amboise, Lyon, Annecy, Avignon/Arles/ Nice. I am looking for recommendations please for good, moderately priced restaurants in these locations. We don't go to very high end restaurants very often, as my husband has no sense of smell or taste. Spending an orhorbitant amount of money and not be able to taste is crazy to us, although we both like to eat ! If you have any favorite restaurants that you'd be willing to pass on, I appreciate your taking the time.
Thank you. Sue the Snowbird/western Massachusetts and Sarasota, Florida
Sounds like you’re doing the My Way France? We just finished that tour. Our hotel in Paris was the Apollainaire in the 14th a new area for us. There were lots of neighborhood restaurants whether you turned right or left out of the hotel. A niece picked out La Table des Copains and you can check their menu online. There is a Monoprix with a grocery section a couple of blocks away. We made reservations for Les Arpents in Amboise which has a tasting menu - we chose the 3 course and it was 43e before wine. It was also fabulous but might not be what you’re looking for with your husband’s particulars. In Lyon we had to chose something that was open and had a menu that my husband was comfortable with. We picked Les Bouchon Lyonnaise and loved it. I had the quenelle in lobster sauce. Their menu is online. I didn’t care for either of our choices in Annecy. It poured rain in Arles so we just ate at the hotel and in Nice our guide did a group dinner for our final night. We had to pay and there were 3 choices for each course- it was a fun way to end the tour and I think the majority opted to do it, but no pressure.
for the bouchon experience in Lyon we often recommend here on the forum the Three Marys; I also like La Tete du Lard, which is behind the opera house.
We ate the best Italian meal I have ever had at Carmelo’s……make certain you get a reservation as it is very crowded when it opens…..delightful atmosphere and delicious food.
