Restaurant Recommendations for Dordogne and Provence

Hello Fellow Travelers! We will be in La Roque-Gageac (Dordogne), and then Les Baux de Provence, for ten days each, this September, and we’d love to get restaurant recommendations for the areas. We’ll have a car. Thanks!

I remember a very nice one next to the Chateau de Beynac called La Taverne des Remparts. Outdoor dining with a view of the chateau. Best if you like duck, though.

Stop in to La Belle Etoile in La Roque and make a reservation. This is a Michelin star restaurant who charged just 35 euros for their delectable dining experience. Check it out!

Presumably when you're in Les Baux, you'll be visiting many of the towns and villages in Provence even if some are longer drives. On a single day trip, you can visit several. The best meal we had in Provence on our trip there 3 years ago was at Les Ramparts in Venasque. Make a reservation for lunch and ask for a table on the terrace. We had the most wonderful 4 course meal. Venasque is a beautiful village perched atop a rocky outcrop. You'll have fabulous views of the countryside from the terrace, especially if seated right at the railing. The food and and wine are exquisite and the service friendly and top notch. We turned it into a 3 hour lunch and still talk about it today.

I've been watching this since I will be in Dordogne in September. Typically people put requests for recommendations under destination Q & A. You might get more responses if you post it there.

Carla mentioned a 3-Star restaurant above, and I have one for Les Baux: Baumaniere. Maybe you’re already staying at the Baumaniere Hotel (?!?), but if not, the restaurant is still on my bucket list. Years ago, my mother-in-law and I had a reservation there for Mother’s Day, but that was the trip where the airline had lost our luggage. We went on to Les Baux, where they eventually delivered our bags when they were located, but we’d been in the same clothes for 2 days, and felt so grungy that we didn’t go in for that elegant meal. I’ve still never been there, so perhaps you could go for me, until I finally can. Bon Appétit!
