Rick recommended the Restaurant Cafe du Soliel at 2 Rue St George. Have a typical Lyonnais quenelle and you’ll feel like a native! I ate there and thought the quenelle was perfect, the price was reasonable, the restaurant charming, the location convenient.

My husband and I just returned from Lyon. One of our favorite meals was at Daniel et Denise Créqui. We also had dinner at M Restaurant. Both were divine, but Daniel et Denise stands out. The chicken in a morel mushroom sauce was sublime. They also served sides of potatoes Lyonnaise and a creamed pasta dish. Another bouchon, Le Musée, highly recommended by our tour guide, Toni from "Lyon Highlights & Secrets Walking Guided Tour" on TripAdvisor (highly recommended three-hour tour) was booked solid and we didn't have reservations , but we lucked out getting a table at D et D since we didn't have reservations there, either.
We had lunch at Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse which was fine and definitely where the locals eat including @ 14 laborers who were boisterous and who obviously enjoyed their meal--they left en masse @ 45 minutes to get back to work. I could tell that the staff knew them well, so they appeared to return often.

I know you inquired about restaurants, but you really should look into the tour I mentioned. Enjoy Lyon!

Last night (9/23/23) we ate at a restaurant named Aromatic in the area Le Croix-Rousse. The entire experience was phenomenal! Food that makes you want to lick your plate, professional and personable waitress (Joanna) and a cozy atmosphere. We paid about 45 Euros for three courses. We booked our table using the app Zen Chef. I would give it my highest recommendation!

Lindy, so pleased to hear about your experience at Daniel & Denise. We have a reservation there in May (2024), and can't wait!

Thank you for all the advice. I will be in the area in May/June. Any recommendations on great coffee shops or bakeries? Anything you think I shouldn't miss - I will be traveling with a female college student and extended family. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

It's extremely difficult to find bad food in Lyon. But I'd avoid the eateries in the Bocuse Market. They're overpriced and mediocre IMO.

We had excellent, reasonably priced meals in random small restaurants that we found as we walked the streets of Lyon. If you're looking for an excellent bakery, just Google "bakery" and go to the nearest one.
