I really liked Les Arpents, where we went for my birthday about four years ago. A quick check shows that it continues to get excellent reviews, and it's right in the center of town, so no driving to worry about. Highly recommended.

I was in Amboise last Sept and found that was almost impossible to get a table without a dinner reservation, so advise you to make a reservation as soon as you decide. Put a little time in researching the many walkable places near your hotel. Hope you have a happy birthday!

I hope I'm not too late, but you MUST consider L'Ilot in Amboise. My husband and I have been there 4 times, and it is absolutely outstanding. It is very small and charming ( 8 - 10 tables ?) Set menu with 2 entree options, etc. for the rest of the meal, so you need to be okay with that... we have never been disappointed!! I believe you still have to call them directly for reservations, but check online--they may have that option. I call them from the USA before we arrive, and when we arrive in Amboise our first night we walk to the restaurant the night before our reservation to confirm. But MUST be done ahead....this is a tiny hidden gem. Highly recommend!
