Recent Xmas Stay in 7th arrondissement

We just returned from a long Xmas journey in France staying about 8 days in Paris. As I was driving and had a car to park, we chose the Les Jardins de Eiffel Hotel on Rue Alemie, just off Rue St. Dominique and I would highly recommend this location for your first time in Paris. On this little 1 block long street, across from the hotel, is a Patisserie, a Bistro and a small but fabulous 16 seat Italian Restaurant. Prefer French, there is a great high end French establishment next door.............and we haven't even went 50 steps for the Hotel Lobby. We could do a 15 minute to the Eiffel Tower and the Port for boat connections. A 30 minute walk put you at the Arc de Triomphe and the start of the Champs De Elysees. We could either walk or Uber everywhere depending on how our bodies felt that day. Rue St. Dominique has everything you could want in this area from cafe's galore, Patisseries, shops, markets, butchers and at at least 3 grocery stores, Monoprix and Franprix, for all your basic needs for your stay. Everyone says staying near the Eiffel Tower is 'touristy' but in this neighborhood we felt safe, right at home and met a lot of locals living in the area that were friendly. Don't listen to all the bad advice about language difficulties as almost everyone in the hospitality trades worldwide will know English to communicate, just like the worldwide standard for airlines and air traffic control in English. Open your greeting with Bonjour and go from there. Most of the French locals we spoke to wanted to speak in English to brush up on their skills also. As most travelers say, use at least Bonjour and Merci in all conversations as it's the polite thing to do. Enjoy your trip to Paris as it's a once in a lifetime experience for most of us.

Thanks for the post, Tom. I love Paris and the 7th and agree with your assessment. It’s where I went the first time in Paris and even though I’ve stayed in the 4th and 5th since, I still like it best.

I always laugh at these people who think the only people in this area are tourists I have stayed the area numerous times and I really don’t think that tourists are keeping fishmongers and butchers in business

I’m thinking you meant Rue Amelie?, I couldn’t find a Rue Alemie on the map.
Darn auto-correct!
Also looking for good hotels in Paris, so your recommendation is useful.

Yep, Rue Amelie where it intersects Rue St. Dominique. There are also 2 other hotels on Rue Amelie but Les Jardins was the only one that provided secure parking. There are a few others on Rue St Dominique that also looked interesting in the same area. Good luck

We love the 7th! We’ve stayed so many times it has a coming-home familiarity. Yes, we’ve stayed in the 18th and the 1st, but the 7th suits us best.

Thanks for your Trip Report!

I agree...love that neighborhood!

"I really don’t think that tourists are keeping fishmongers and butchers in business"

Nor the schools on the end of Rue Cler where President Macron used to live!
