Paris restaurants in the 16th

My family will be visiting Paris and will be staying in the 16th at 55-57 Ave Raymond Poincare - Renaissance Paris Nobel Hotel - We have never stayed so far over before and the area seems more residential which will be a nice change. I will be traveling with my 24 year old son and husband who both prefer a more casual dining experience. Does anyone have any recommendations ? Thank you.

Looking at Google Maps, the hotel seems to be in a "restaurant desert"...hopefully someone else will chime in with some ideas, but I don't know this area well at all, not so sure I see the attraction of staying there.

I am not a fan of the right bank in the first place, I always stay on the left bank (15 eme), in a predominately residential neighborhood where I am surrounded by great food options, from cafes to fine dining.

Good luck.

From an online guide to Paris:

This arrondissement is also home to many of the most glamorous luxury hotels in Paris, and our favorite Michelin-starred restaurants.

The area is largely residential, and upscale - I visited my brother there when he was working in Paris years ago - and Parisians must eat out, yes? One advantage may be fewer tourist traps, since it's off the tourist trail.

But the OP is looking for more "casual" dining experiences, and that ain't at Michelin starred joints...

There is a great Lebanese takeaway shop down a side street at place Victor Hugo. It's called Al-Dar. Warning: sitting and eating at the sit-down restaurant will be ridiculously more expensive. But to get some sandwiches and stuff for apéro to take away for a picnic, the walk-in one is great (look for "Traiteur" on the facade / awning).

Market day along President Wilson is a must-do in that area and has plenty of street food like folded crepes.

For tourist French there is Paris Follies

A better but still tourist-friendly restaurant is Victor

They usually have ris de veau, which separates them from being too too touristy.

Also take a look at the brasserie named Victor Hugo a little north:

It qualifies as more casual -- avocado toast and cheeseburgers as well as standards -- but to me the prices are high for everything except the daily blue plate specials. (Fried chicken Tuesdays!)

also please post a review of that Renaissance when you get back -- I've had my eye on it as a possible way to use points.

There is also Le Petit Rétro on rue Mesnil, which is a little side street not too far from your hotel. I haven’t been there in years, so check reviews. If the reviews are good, it's a great spot as the design /decoration is so charming.

You may enjoy being the guest of the hotel/cuisine students at Mederic, a professional school near the Park Monceau. They serve lunch several days each week (arrival time: noon) up to May 6 when they take their summer break. You can ask for someone who speaks English and the set menu for your review is available on their website. Prices are very reasonable and you can enjoy the experience of being served by students in training while their colleagues do the cooking (under close supervision, of course). We go every time we visit Paris. A reservation is mandatory. Enjoy!

Wow, Kim -- the carte and setting of that spot on Mesnil looks really appealing!

I'm a little wary of the prices though, but the area can bear that premium. The one red flag is that the available languages for the web page include both German and Russian. Do you recall any transalpine eaters when you dined there?

No, but it's been nearly 20 years, so my response is not helpful !
