We loved the 3-star Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in the 5th Arr., relatively far from the Seine (15 minute walk), near the Pantheon and the Sorbonne (5 minute walks), and very near Rue Mouffetard (2 minutes). Just steps from where Ernest and Hadley Hemingway lived in Paris. Walking distance to Luxembourg Gardens in one direction and the Jardin des Plantes in another. https://www.hoteldesgrandesecoles.com
The hotel was an oasis, walled-off from the street with a lovely, quiet garden courtyard. A lovely spot to relax after sightseeing or walking through Paris’ parks or before or after dinner. Attentive front desk staff with good English. They were very helpful with directions for getting Navigo cards. We had well-developed plans, so I can’t speak to concierge services.
The garden view room was a little small - though large enough to be comfortable. The shower was great - not the challenge that we have sometimes found in hotels in France.
The wiring was from another era, so we were glad we had our electric converter with three outlets plus three USB ports and one USB-c port. With that, we could use our water-pick, charge two phones, a remote battery/charger and one other device.
Breakfast (Sept 2025) was an extra 16 Euros. They had two breakfast options at that price, plus a smaller and cheaper third option. Set breakfasts properly served and not a buffet. Second coffee/espresso drink included - and offered cheerfully.
In the dining room, the server was effusive, spoke very close to no English but she was wonderful. The hotel manager told us she has been there for 39 years. What does that tell you?!
C. $350+/night price range for us in September.
