Paris Hotel

It has been many years since we were to Paris but we are on a Viking Cruise starting in Paris and they have us staying at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile at 3 PI du General Koenig starting on 5/31/25. We are planning on going into Paris early to visit the city and would like to know if anyone has suggestions on hotel/B&B etc. that is still very nice but more affordable. There are three travels to perhaps 2 rooms needed? Any help suggestions are appreciated.

You did not mention the price of the cruise hotel, so I looked it up. Currently runs $215 +/- per night on various sites.

How many years since you were last in Paris, where did you stay, and what was the cost of the room? I ask because the price for the Hyatt is quite reasonable for Paris, and you may need to update your expectations of price....Paris, like the rest of the Europe, has gotten more expensive in recent years. If you are thinking of a stay there predating the pandemic, you may be in for a shock.

Thank you for your response..... the hotel mentioned is the hotel that the cruise line is setting us up at.... I tried on line to book a room at that hotel is for the end of May 2025 the room rates I see are @ $350. - $375 per night?..... I realize that rates have gone up and we still travel a lot but not sure we want to spend that much.

I can't comment on that hotel for value or location, but I visit Paris often (was there last month, going back next month) and I regularly pay $3xx for hotel rooms there. Pre pandemic it was $2xx...go back about 15 years ago it was $1xx...

Good luck.

Did you want to stay in that neighborhood or are you open to elsewhere?

I usually stay in the 7th near Rue Cler. I like the Hotel Relais Bosquet and Hotel Muguet. I stayed at Muguet for 8 nights in October and they have the nicest linens of any hotel I've stayed in, lol. Very nice towels and sheets, haha. The Bosquet has a nicer hot breakfast selection if that is important to you. This last trip Muguet was quite a bit less than Bosquet so I chose there. Sometimes they are about the same. They were both under 300E but I did not look to see what they are priced at for next May. I was looking at the Bosquet website last night and noticed that they do have a pair of rooms that are connecting which is unusual. I don't know whether that would be important for you or if you'd prefer the 2 separate rooms.

Many on the forum feel the Rue Cler area is too far away from the center of things but I usually walk from say, the Tuileries back to the hotel unless it's hot or rainy, lol. It is a lot more convenient than the location of the Hyatt Regency. There are a lot of restaurants in the area which makes it nice as well.

I don't know if this would work for the 3 of you. But I stayed at French Theory in the Latin Quarter this year. They have a room with 2 bunk beds. I would happily stay in this room with my 2 sons, but I definitely would not be sleeping on the top bunk. It is 380 Euros for one night on the 31st of May. That will be less money than 2 separate rooms.

hey hey dalet49
changes have happened from years ago. prices have gone thru the roof everywhere. few years ago we were looking for an apartment in paris for us two friends. ended up staying in the 14th arrondissement, was nice but everyday we had to find a taxi to take us to city center which adds cost. found it on trip advisor vacation rentals. you can also look on booking.com
all big cities are so busy all year long, so many tourists traveling looking for the same thing you are plus many wanting more budget friendly, it's supply and demand, pay a little more to be within city center.
cruises offer hotels with costs more and many often get a kick back if you book through. if you see something you like and okay with it book them early or email direct to hotel and see what they offer.
seems to be that there is no off season anymore, busy all year long. we were there in sept/oct 2019 and it's was so crowded. it was fashion week, many parades along the seine river with bumper to bumper, president cheraq had passed with many residents from all around france attending his memorial, dignitaries from around the world, fashionistas and papparazzis, security blocking roads and streets, restaurants and cafes packed. do your due diligence finding a places and if you need to resrve restaurants do it early. we would walk around and find a small cafe that allowed us just to sit outside and people watch with our drinks & appetizers,
have lots of patience, enjoy paris, remember you are at start of high season. good luck
