Off-the-beaten-track Normandy B&B

A friend and I stayed at B&B Les oiseaux de passage about three years ago during a visit to Normandy. The B&B is located just outside Isigny-sur-Mer and located roughly half-way between Bayeux and Sainte-Mère-Église. The B&B is located in a lovingly-restored stone barn on the owners' property. It is gorgeous inside and out. There is a lovely garden area, too. Breakfasts are excellent and may include eggs collected fresh from the small farm's chickens. The owners are very helpful in making recommendations on what to do/see and where to eat. There was also locally-made ice cream in the freezer (in individual size cups).

A washer and dryer were available, and we did laundry there. As for our time at Normandy, we spent two full days with an excellent local guide, one day at the museum at Caen, and one morning in Bayeux to see the tapestry (along with 1-2 evenings in Bayeaux to eat dinner).

I adored this B&B. Lovely hosts. Lovely facility. Great food! I would stay here again without reservation but would probably spend some time engaging in a few more nature activities in the area (even if just walking on the nearby [non-combat] beaches) instead of being so focused on war things. I will offer the B&B is not for two types of people...

  1. Those trying to cram all things Normandy into a 24- to 36-hour visit to the area. The B&B is not 3 minutes away from anything. It's also something to be enjoyed a little bit -- I wouldn't want to just hustle in at night and out in the morning (with a bagel hanging from my mouth).
  2. Those reliant on public transportation. You definitely need a car if staying there.

Thanks for the tip, Dave. It looks and sounds like a lovely place.
