We are stopping in Amiens on our way from Bayeux to Lille, just one night. Anyone have a nice quiet hotel recommendation or a restaurant to suggest?
Hi
I stayed two nights in Amiens last year. I'd recommend the Mercure if you want a mainstream hotel just across from the Cathedral and centrally located. If you want something a little more budget, quirky but only a block further away, then try the ibis styles Amiens cathedrale - we stayed there and it was ideal for us. As to eating, walk to the area around Rue des Bondes - close to the cathedral too, and at the river's edge. Loads of different restaurants to try - we ate very well in Le Retroviseur
The station is walking distance (say 10 to 12 minutes) from the Cathedral.
Enjoy!
We have often stayed at Logis de France (family-owned) inns/hotels so if you google "Logis de France Amiens" you'll see a list of their hotels in and around Amiens. Usually the hotels have pretty good restaurants, too .... and parking.
I would recommend staying at the Hotel Marotte at 3 rue Marotte. Estelle and her staff will give you personalized service and a warm welcome. It is like having a good friend in Amiens. The rooms are lovely and comfortable too. It is peaceful.
To eat, we like the Le Sept Steak & Burger restaurant at 7 boulevard de Belfort for a nice dinner- you can choose casual food or more snazzy fare in the same restaurant at reasonable prices.
There is a Moroccan restaurant (can't remember the name) right across the street from the train station, in the middle of a row of restaurants - one of the best meals I had in France.
I loved Amiens!
