Meaux France & the Museum of the Great War

I would like to stay in Meaux France for 2 nights but I am having trouble finding accommodations. I would prefer a hotel with a restaurant nearby due to the brevity of my stay. I would like something nice & not too basic.

Any ideas?

Hi,

From the centre vllle to the site of the Museum is pretty far, one hour walk at least. You would find the hotels in that area. Buses go to the museum across from the train station. as indicated in the station. They pass by the centre ville first.

Meaux is worth a two night stay, interesting town to explore. In 1914 it was in the area of the fighting as the German 1st Army had turned east of Paris. The electronic maps displayed depict the events of 1914 and those of 1918 clearly and accurately.

A full day was enough for me, arriving fairly early by train and getting back to Paris for a mid-evening meal. In that time frame it was worth taking a taxi to and from the musee. Google Maps estimates about 45 minutes on foot and will provide a map of the route. The small city centre includes a pretty ornamental garden behind town hall.
I like the museum a lot because it focuses on experiencing the great war as well as fighting it. Much attention is paid to how society functioned and how the ordinary infantry soldiers survived. Definitely worth the excursion.
