Lyon - Hotel Recommendations

We will be joining a river cruise in Lyon Aug 27 and will arrive 1 day early (26th @ 3pm). I need 2 hotel rooms. We will be tired and need a nice, quiet hotel for resting.

I would love to stay at the Marriott because the price is great and it looks like a quiet area. But, the location does not seem good for dinner, nor seeing some of Lyon on the 27th. A reasonably convenient area near Quai Claude Bernard, 69007 would be nice for storing baggage since we cannot check-in to our room until 3PM.

Price: would like 150 euros as max, if possible
Location: central area but nice; maybe La Presqu’île
Desire: elevator (but not required); AC (could be hot at the end of Aug); absolutely No Smoking

Thanks in advance. I

The Mariott in Lyon is in Cité Internationale, a modern development along the Rhône River on the north side of Parc de la Tête d'Or. It's more or less a business hotel, located adjacent to Interpol headquarters. It's a nice development with some decent restaurants, but definitely not in the main part of the city. There are excellent mass transit links along Quai Charles De Gaulle adjacent to Cité Internationale to pretty much anywhere in Lyon you may want to go.

I usually recommend (and stay at when visiting Lyon for shopping or doctor's appointments) either Hôtel des Célestins or Hôtel des Artistes. Both are located on the presqu'île around Place des Célestins east of Place Bellecour, pretty much in the heart of town. Both have air conditioning, character, and are non-smoking. I'm sure you could stash your bags at either one prior to check-in.

My husband and I are staying at Hôtel des Célestins in September through Booking.com. I just checked for your date, August 26. They have one room at $128. They may have another at a different price for the two rooms you need. You might want to book directly through the hotel. I somehow received a better deal through Booking.com, though. I have never stayed there before but it is highly recommended here and is truly central to Lyon sights.

Thank you both! I have booked at Hotel des Celestins. The $128 was not refundable, but they had 1 courtview and 1 city view available so I grabbed those. Very good prices. Hope I get a good room. I know they can vary.

We stayed at the Hotel Taggat. Aside from it being quiet, good location and a great housekeeping staff, I cannot recommend it. We made our reservation well enough in advance, we should not have been given the last room at the top, the elevator(a blessing) stopped at the floor below. It was two steps away from a headache due to the sloped ceiling and a cement beam that lowered the ceiling height to under 5’. The bathroom door was a chic pressboard. The bathroom was so small-sorry to have to mention this, but if you needed to sit on the stool, you had to angle your knees one direction and your bum the other. The staircase was narrow and curving and with a beam running across it as you headed down the steepest part. Only two staff members were friendly-possibly ageism? The bus boy in the restaurant who cheerfully gave us two wine glasses and one fellow who happened to be at the counter when we were returning one time. We never saw him again. Perhaps if you specify a room on a lower floor, you’ll do fine. Seriously, the pictures do not do the place justice.
