In the Latin Quarter, try La Truffiere for fine dining with elegant but friendly service ...

After spending four hours on a toasty, June walking tour of the Latin Quarter, we were looking for a lunch break and from the cafe scene/cuisines; on the recommendation of our guide, we stopped at La Truffiere. To say that we were dressed a bit on the casual side would be a bit of an understatement. As soon as I walked in the door and we approached the hostess I was a bit concerned about being a bit under-dressed for the handsome decor and surroundings - but, the hostess was not and seated us in a lovely room and table. The prix fix menu (31 euros) was perfect, no fantastic, as was the featured wine; but, as much as the food was truly superb it was the gracious and friendly service that really bowed me over. Forget those nasty tales of snooty french waiters, the La Truffiere staff made fine dining an enjoyable, fun experience with smiles and pleasant conversation in English. We had arrived a bit late for the lunch but were served in a most relaxed and nicely paced fashion. As La Truffiere began to empty (both customers and staff), and we lingered a bit with our desserts and cafes, it was the manager who stood by so that we were not rushed, in the least.

That sounds lovely. I'll be in Paris the end of October and I'll be sure to check it out.

Lucky you. I looked up the restaurant and the two course weekday lunch is now 32 euro, but the other fixed price meals run from 60-310 euro, the latter being a special truffle meal. It's a special restaurant, indeed. Glad you experienced the graciousness of well-trained staff.
