Just back from 5 days in Paris. A friend and I stayed at Hotel Saint Merry in the Marais district. It's a great little place with lots of charm and character. Though the hosts seem a little standoffish at first, they are kind and helpful. There are a LOT of steps to carry baggage up to, but the staff do offer help. The location is great -- just a few blocks from both Notre Dame and the Louvre. I would really recommend this hotel with this observation: the hotel is on a lively street so the rooms are very noisy when the windows are open -- and it stays noisy late into the night. Also, there is no air conditioner. I would imagine the rooms could get warm and stuffy with windows closed.
