Will be in Avignon for four nights before boarding a river cruise next May. Suggestions for a hotel or B&B would be appreciated. We are two seniors and volkswalkers.
I have stayed at Hotel du Parc. It is inexpensive, family-run, and serves a homemade breakfast. It is close to the wall and TI. There are stairs, no elevator. I last stayed there in 2010, so changes are possible. I remember a laundromat nearby.
Nancy, we stayed at Maison Boussingault for four nights last September, and it was excellent. A young-ish couple (mid thirties) operate it and were great, very good breakfast, nicely appointed rooms, also near a laundromat.
And, thanks for the new word, I wanna be a volkswalker!
If you'd like a centrally located hotel with kitchenettes, try Hotel Medieval. We stayed there in April and enjoyed it very much--typical Rick Steves hotel with charm but basic amenities (no elevator).
In 2011 I stayed at Hotel Boquier, about a 5 minute walk from the train station, one block over from the main street. Very nice young couple (owners, I believe) who spoke good English, and a good included breakfast. Reasonably priced, I thought.
Oops, i see breakfast is not included. 9 euro extra. Double rooms are 65 to 80 euro during high season (April thru October). They gave me good recommendations for restaurants. I just looked at my photo album to refresh my memory; I really liked it there. :)
Can very highly recommend B & B Le Clos du Rampart in the old town(just inside the old wall, as the name implies). Beautifully appointed B & B, very tasty breakfast served by a charming, helpful hostess. It's situated close to all attractions.
