Good hotels near Rue Cler?

Hello Paris lovers! Can anyone recommend a hotel near the Rue Cler in the 7th arrondissement? My husband, 10-year old daughter and I will be visiting Paris for five days in September and we love this area. The food, the wine, the walking! The last time we were in Paris, we stayed at a place recommended by Rick Steves, l'Hotel Muguet, and we really enjoyed it. We liked the fact that it was a quaint, family-run Parisian hotel rather than a sterile chain. The shower was too small for my husband to turn around in, but we managed. If we can't find another interesting place, we'll book the Hotel Muguet again, but I thought I'd ask the community so we might find something new. Any suggestions?

Hi Greer,

I stayed at the Hotel du Champ de Mars back in 2010, and thought it was excellent. Very nice and helpful staff, plus the location cannot be beat. About a 10 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower.

The hotel also has a little elevator, but no A/C. Have fun.

Another thumbs' up for Hotel du Champ de Mars. Stayed there in 2005 and it was the perfect locale for sampling Rue Cler's charm on a smaller budget. Across the street are several good restaurants, and I lost count how many boulangeries and cremeries there were around the corner. Fantastic family-friendly neighborhood. Heading back this July, staying at Hotel de la Motte Picquet (also in 7e) just for a change of scenery.

I second orv's and Matt's recommendation. I have stayed there before and will be staying there again this coming June.

Hotel Muguet in the Rick Steve's Paris book. We just love that place. Such a great value for Paris. Love the neighborhood. There is this wonderful little restaurant on the corner. If you walk out the front door and turn right, it is at the end of the street on the right hand side. We hope to go back and stay again. Also quick walk to get a peek of the Eiffel tower at night!

Just came back from 8 days in Paris. We stayed at Hotel Champ de Mars for the first two nts...loved the area and room was very nice. Rooms are small in Europe but when we went to the second hotel we wished we were back here.

I would stay at the Hotel Muguet again. Loved it.

Another vote for Hotel Muguet. I also liked hotel Londres-Eiffel, pricier than the Muguet but lovely. Both have tiny rooms, quite normal for Paris.

Check out Hotel Londres Eiffel, with a view from your bed of the Eiffel Tower all lighted up and blinking on the hour. It worth the extra cost just to experience that. It will take an upper floor reservation to see above the adjacent apartment buildings. You don't necessarily have to follow in the Steeves recommendations. You can go to tripadvisor.com, Paris forum, and find all manner of great hotels away from all those Seattle tourists at Rue Cler. Send me a PM if you want another place to stay away from Rue Cler.

It was in August 2006, but we stayed at Hotel du Cadran. We were very satisfied with the hotel, and got a good deal on Expedia. That was our first trip to Paris. In my 3 subsequent trips I've stayed in the Latin Quarter twice and in the Gare de Lyon area across the river from the Latin Quarter once. All 3 times in apartments. I personally prefer the Latin Quarter (5th arrondisment) over the Rue Cler (7th arrondisment) area as I find it more lively. FYI Rue Cler is dead on Sunday's.

Hotel Kensington is a good one. My wife and I stayed there for fives nights in May 2010 and the location can't be beat. It gets 7.2 on Booking.com and 3.5 start on Trip Advisor, a little lower than I would have expected. I would have given it a solid 4/5 or 7.5 out of ten, but that was five years ago. Read the reviews, one place that we stayed in Sarlat in 2003 which was perfectly fine went way downhill according to TripAdvisor a few years later. Experiences differ and ownership changes, so especially if the data are dated, read the reviews.

I can recommend the Hotel Empereur and Londres Eiffel. Stayed at both hotels and liked the locations in the 7th. The Hotel Empereur is right across the street from Napoleon's Tomb and the Londres Eiffel is 2 blocks from the Eiffel Tower. We walked to the ET from both hotels every night to see it illuminated. Both hotels have elevators and breakfast available (additional charge). Hope you have a great trip!

I stayed at Champ du Mars twice and won't be back. Male owner is in the wrong business IMHO. He was incredibly rude to guests.

I am trying Hotel Beaugrency this trip

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel de la Motte Picquet in January 2015. Staff was great and the accommodations were very nice. It is right around the corner from Rue Cler convenient to both Metro and bus travel. It is walking distance to the Eiffel Tower, Invalides and the Rodin Museum. I have recommended it to friends and would stay there again at the drop of a hat.

Thanks, Robert, for sharing your experience factor re: Hotel de la Motte Picquet. My family and I will be staying there in early July, but have never lodged there previously (booked 'blind', online); GREAT to learn of your recent account. It's down-the-street proximity to several Rue Cler sights was its' draw for us as well.

Merci mille fois to all of you for your wonderful suggestions! We checked them all out but Hotel de l'Empereur won our reservation. Can't wait!
