France, Sarlat to Amboise

We will be driving from Sarlat to Amboise in April, we would like to break that into 2 days and not drive it all in one day, any suggestions of a good half way point other than a large city. thank you

We made the trip in one day, so I cannot recommend a place to stay. However, I highly recommend stopping at Oradour Sur Glane for a visit. It was very worthwhile. You can read about it:

It was a very moving experience and well worth the time and effort it took us to drive there. Have a great trip.

Hello Jeff,
Some thoughts for you – this is a great part of France to travel through

Head north from Sarlat and stop at Limoges (about 1:40Hrs) and visit the porcelain museum & factory outlets – some great bargains to be had here.

Then head north east to Montlucon (1:30hrs) to stay the night.

You could go to Montlucon via Aubusson (2:10hrs) and visit the tapestry museum – this town is the centre of the tapestry trade in France

Stay in Montlucon – the old town is magnificent and well worth walking around and there are some great restaurants in the old town too. There are couple of budget hotels near the railway station that are within easy walking distance of the old town.

Next morning head north to Gien (2:10 hrs), it’s on the Loire river and is the centre for fine chinaware but a completely different style/type to Limoges. There are factory outlets here as well.

After lunch drive to Amboise (2 hrs)
