Will be in Paris for a short stay -- want to be close to the East Train station for an early train to Stuttgart Germany -- we also looking for a couple good local eatery

We stayed at the Belta Residence a few years back. There is also a Timhotel nearby. There are quite a few hotels across the street from Gare de l'Est.

I recommend the restaurant directly opposite of the main entrance of Paris Est.. This big restaurant, see how deep it goes to the rear) used to be called (for years) "La Strasbourgeosie ." The address is 5 rue du mai 1945.
Good prices, good food, good service, well-organised, good portions. Super convenient as I stay in Paris Nord if you want a nice sit-down, white table cloth service establishment.
I go there a few times on every trip. The patrons are varied, foreign tourists, incl. some Americans, lots of French and some German tourists
