I like this area - I'll be solo for 5 nights mid-May - I have a RS Paris 2014 guidebook I'm going by at the moment. I'm leaning Hotel Pratic - at about $120/night. Place des Vosges and St Louis Maraas are about $180 (worth it?) I don't care too much about a breakfast - don't mind a smallish room as I'll be single. Any other recs? Thanks.
Hotel Pratic has reviews that worry me.. cleaned only every 3-4 days, and its six stories WITHOUT an elevator.. single rooms are often up top.. just saying.
Hotel Saint Louis sounds much better.. however you are paying a lot more..
There are better hotels priced in between those ranges.. why are you married to the Marais?
Not really married to it, just seemed like the most appealing neighborhood when reading RS guidebook. I'll take any suggestions though - just like a place located around some hustle and bustle.
Check out Hotel du Vieux Marais --
single rooms are small but functional; owners and long-time staff are great,
but it's true the counter/temp staff may not know much beyond what you get from searching google yourself.
Easy walk to everywhere yet comparatively low traffic noise.
Rick doesn't list any hotels in the Latin Quarter but I enjoyed my week last Fall at the Hotel Diana on Rue St. Jacques. It's a busy area convenient to several different metro lines and the RER and walkable to Notre Dame, the Pompidou, Luxembourg Gardens, and more.

The Marais is very, very fun and a great choice. Have you tried Hotel Jeanne d'Arc? Consistently gotten very good reviews for years. If they're booked, keep looking.
I did see Hotel Jeanne d'Arc, looks nice, about 175 euros, a little pricey esp since I feel I won't be there during the day much.
I'm seeing 80 euros fora single room at Hotel du Vieux Marais , almost seems too cheap, but reviews look very good - leaning that way now.
Hotel St Pierre on Rue de Ecole du Medicine is a great cheap hotel ( we've stayed there twice , once as a couple and once I stayed there solo) . Rooms are very clean and very small !!! Location is excellent ! It's just around the corner in a quiet side street just off the very busy boulevard St Michel which divides the Latin quarter from St Germain ! Close to almost anything you could want , several metro stations so you can catch numerous lines , bus stops , the Rer station , walk to Seine , Louvre , Cluny , Orsay etc ( assuming you like to walk )
I also liked the Hotel Diana , but it's a bit more expensive .
Hotel Eugenie , if you can get a deal , is also in a great location !!! I've stayed there solo. , with my kid and with my hubby . Clean small rooms ( guess you see my priorities ) but location is so central and yes , you step out the door and there you are !!! Staff are so kind too .
If you walk east and north from Hotel du Vieux Marais just one block you find bakery and cafe that locals actually use; everything near Jeanne d'Arc is touristy and cold. Apply a little charm to the owners and they will give you better advice.
There are many hotels in the Marais in the 125-150 Eu per night range. RS guidebooks list only a few (and your guidebook is outdated). I use booking.com for hotel reservations. For Marais hotels check that they are Within the 75004 area code. You can apply whatever filters you want: elevator, wifi, pets, price range, etc. I like the Marais because it is walking distance from many other interesting areas; bus and Metro service are good; there are lots of eating choices. The popular areas are all "touristy." In most cases you will pay extra for breakfast in your hotel. You can always get coffee and croissant at a bar, cheaper and faster.
