Looking for a place to spend one night in Chamonix valley area in Sept. Any suggestions? A bed and breakfast would be nice. Also any restaurant suggestions?
Thank you
Hi Heidi, we loved Chamonix. We stayed at the Hotel de L'Arve, perfect location, great staff, wonderful breakfast buffet (best baguettes I've ever had!). For dinner, try La Caleche. We had the fondue and raclette - so good!
I second the Hotel de L'Arve. We spent two nights there last September and it was excellent. We had a small but very nice room, the staff was wonderful. The lobby and public rooms were beautiful and the afternoon 'tea' was simple but very nicely done. We would happily stay there again. While I don't remember where we had dinner it was good.
If the day is clear, don't miss the Aguille du Midi. Not cheap but a ride that goes up 9000 feet in only two stages is not soon forgotten.
Heidi,
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel l'Arve too!
We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but opted to go to the bakery, 'Le Fournil Chamoniard', near the Aiguille du Midi for their delicious pastries & quiches.
We enjoyed our dinners at Le Caveau (The Cave), on two separate evenings.
Make sure you know where it is, as we almost missed it, since there's a small sign near the ground, because the restaurant is downstairs!
The atmosphere is very unique & the food was delicious!
Enjoy Chamonix!
