Boutique Hotel , we are 6 ladies from Australia, don,t want the big modern tourist Hotels. Looking for one with character. However budget is not more than $400 US a night.

France uses euro, so what's your budget in euro, and is that total for all 6 (3 rooms?)

If their budget is not more than $400 US, and the Euro is pretty much on par with the US dollar, I would guess their budget is around 400 Euro/night.
It's doubtful you will find a room for six in a boutique hotel. You will need 2, or more likely, 3 rooms.

You mighr try Rick's suggestion of renting an apartment through one of the agencies in the Paris book. We had a wonderful apartment in Montparnasse in March for 5 people through Paris Rents. Good luck!
