Bayeux anyone?

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Reine Mathilde in Bayeux while taking in the battlefields of Normandy. If you are heading that way, the Reine Mathilde is a must.

Location - right in downtown Bayeux, which is the midpoint of the 5 Normandy beaches, making each beach a relatively short drive. The hotel is one block from City Hall and three blocks (short walk) to the Bayeux Tapestry. It is a short drive to the English Cemetery. The hotel has a restaurant and the food is good, adequate quantity and well presented and fairly priced. If your ability to speak French is as limited as mine, the staff speaks English.

Like all European hotel rooms, the rooms are small but are well maintained.

Thank you for this review. I'm staying in that hotel for the first time in September and it's good to know that you liked it.

Thanks for this. DH and I will be there in a few weeks. We’ve eaten at their restaurant and thought it was good. Now we’ll be staying there a couple of nights as well.

I stayed there, too for 1 night because the guesthouse La Tour Louise was booked up in that 1 particular night.

The Reine Mathilde is a good location and no-frills typical hotel. There are more interesting properties around if you would like something with a bit of character.

Some of the rooms of this hotel overlook the lively smoking courtyard so be aware of that if you’re a light sleeper.

I thought my room at Reine Mathilde was pretty spacious when I was there in 2016.
And the room window looked out on the wonderful 1077 Bayeux Cathedral.

I wholeheartedly recommend it when people go to Bayeux.
