Since 2000, I've been staying with Marie Francoise Turpin on Rue Buffon. It has been a highlight of my life. In October of this year (2017) I stayed with her for the 9th time. She is the kindest person and lovely hostess. Staying with her is like living like a Parisian. Sometimes I stay in a room in her apartment and other times I've stayed in another apartment in the same complex. In 2011, when staying with a boyfriend, she regularly stocked our refrigerator with wine, cheese, and President's butter. Every morning she left fresh croissants and bread in a bag outside of our door. I hardly spoke French on my first visit but now we converse about almost everything when I return from a day of exploring Paris. Friends and other family members have stayed with her over the years too. It's good to have such a great contact in the city.
There is a post office, grocery store, and other amenities nearby. She is also near the Gare d'Austerlitz metro station, Jardin des Plantes, and other wonderful sights.I will provide contact info for her after speaking to her in the near future.
I would not bother, if she doesn't have a 13-digit registration number...
Interesting first post.
Free wine and cheese?
Sounds great! Thanks, mfaluszczak!
Sheesh.
Every morning she left you food... she bought you wine, bread and cheese.. . sounds like she never would make any profit..
Maybe she is his mother?
Interestingly, I found a 2011 post from someone else about the same apartment and Marie-Francoise Turpin, showing just as much enthusiasm for the place, Mme Turpin and the croissants left at the door.
Well that's quite a coincidence , lol
Good sleuthing Norma ! Takes a bit more to fool experienced forum members .
I do feel the 2011 post was authentic and am now inclined to think this recent one is as well. So Mme Turpin has some fans and it seems she deserves the kind words.
Perhaps that is so , but I always find it suspicious when someone comes in a forum for only one reason, to make a glowing referral of a commercial enterprise . Call me a cynic . But I agree that the lady may be nice .
When I saw the "question", i.e. topic, I figured we were going to learn about the neighborhood in Paris populated with authentic Latins
My posting is honest & accurate, though I don't often post on forums like this. Sorry it’s taken me a while to reply. I have a long daily commute to and from my job. My motivation is to help my now friend Marie Francoise Turpin (as mentioned before, I’ve visited her numerous times now). Her business had been hit hard by AirBnb in addition to a fall in business due to the attacks in Paris during the past couple of years. You can request a stay at her place through Alcove & Agapes, the site listed in that 2011 posting. It's at www.bed-and-breakfast-in-paris.com/Dicillin.phb? That agency will get a larger cut than what she can earn on her own, that’s why she depends on people like me who return and tell others about her hospitality. Maybe she wouldn’t leave bread, cheese, and wine for everyone but she would surely see that everyone has a drink, snack, and travel information when they visit, and breakfast is included. BTW, I love Canada too and have traveled often to Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and other places in the Northeast.
Does she have a registration number or is it an illegal rental ?
No Paris registration number anywhere on the website, she does give her 14 digit business number which is different.
Alcove & Agapes is quite legitimate, I doubt that she would eb listed there were this an illegal rental.
I got the impression from my quick glance at the website that what is being rented is an individual room in an occupied apartment. Does that require the same type of registration in Paris as rental of stand-alone apartments?
I conclude that you would need to register, as described on the Alcove and Agapes website. She rents a room in her apartment and also an entire apartment in the same complex.
