We discovered a lovely B&B located in St. Georges Sur Cher and is called Le Clos de La Chesneraie. It is just a 4 min-drive away from Chateau Chennoceau, so we can beat the crowd by arriving early. We stayed there for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay.
This B&B is a privately-owned house with a drive-in area for parking and a large garden. The 4 guest rooms are located in another building separated by a lawn from the main house. Hard-working hostess Beatrice served us continental breakfast in her lovely dining room in the main house. One can request to have dinner at the B&B. So after a long and tired castle-touring day, we enjoyed a 3-course cuisine-style dinner cooked by Beatrice with ingredients from the garden and wine & cheese from the region. We particularly enjoyed lively conversation around the dining table with Beatrice and another couple who happened to stay there for the same 2 nights as ours.
We also enjoyed staying in our elegantly-decorated guest room as the furnishings of the guest rooms were featured in their local French decoration magazine. It's really a 5-star B&B accommodation for the price of a 3-star!
Besides serving us food, Beatrice also gave us a lot of information for touring in the region. For example, she informed us of a guided tour in a cave nearby where mushrooms are grown and a wine cave in Amboise where we can buy decades-old wine.
However, this B&B is only convenient for those who rent a car in touring the region. St Georges Sur Cher is not shown on the Michelin map of France 721, but it does show up on the road sign once you are near the Chateau Chennoceau area.
If I had the chance of going back to visit the Loire region, I would definitely stay at Le Clos de La Chesneraie again. Its website is: www.leclosdelachesneraie.com
