Train Helsinki <-> Rovaniemi: seat reservation question

Hello:

I have 10 days in Finland in mid/late September, and wish to travel by daytime train to and from Rovaniemi, spending 3 nights in Rovaniemi (hoping for a strong aurora around the equinox...).

I am confused about seat reservations, having found conflicting information online as well as obvious AI mis-information.

For a standard coach ticket (currently about $125-ish each way during daytime) is there a compulsory additional seat reservation fee?

Or is the seat reservation fee (25% of ticket price) applicable only to Eurail/Interrail pass users?

Thank you.

If you go right to the Finnish train operator site, you can see the prices. I just tried a dummy booking and it lets you select your seat (included in ticket price).

Thank you. Yes, just found that as well as the "pensioner discount!"

Certainly changes the math for considering a rail pass vs individual tickets!

Thanks again.
