Seurasaari Open-Air Folk Museum

Hello,
I will be stopping in Helsinki for the day in June via a cruise ship.

Wondering if the Seurasaari Open-Air Folk Museum is worth the stop.
I do enjoy living history museums, but I am not finding much information on what might be some daily activites at this museum. I will be there on a Sunday, so I am guessing that there are more activities on the weekends.

Thank you in advance !

Yes, but....

My first on the list is just walking around Helsinki getting a "feel" for the town. Then high on my list of sights beyond walking distance of the town are the Seurasaari Open-Air Folk Museum and Suomenlinna Fortress. The Open Air Museum is an easy bus ride from downtown. The Fortress and easy and scenic ferry ride from the dock near the fish market.

Yes Edgar, I am planning on exploring the city. But..... I am just wanting to know if the Seurasaari Open Air Folk Museum is worth it? Did you only see the houses, or were there activities/shows?
Thank you for telling me that its an easy bus ride.

I have a plan for exploring Helsinki and I might have a few hours available to fit in the museum. If I don't go to this museum, I will continue within the city to explore.
Will keep searching the internet to find more info.

I visited Seurasaari on a Sunday in August 2014. While I did enjoy visiting the various houses and learning about the culture from the interpreters, this is a relatively small open air museum and pales in comparison to a place like Skansen in Stockholm in terms of variety of activities. I would first check their calendar to see what activities are planned there for the date of your visit a little closer to the time that you plan to visit. When we visited there were various music performances occurring in the church.

It's been about Easter week eight or so years since I visited the Open Air Folk Museum. My recollection is that is is NOT a Disneyland experience and actually the opposite. It is more of a tranquil experience in a family outdoor outing setting.

Thank you Laura,
I will take your advice and keep an eye out for the cultural activities at the open air museum via the internet.
I had looked last week, and they were getting ready for the winter season and didn't have any activities.
Will check back around spring time and hopefully a few activities about the Finnish culture will be displayed.

I was there in late summer one year, and truth be told, I was not blown away. It's not nearly as extensive or elaborate as many other similar museums. There were only a handful of staff working there that day, so it was mostly just empty buildings.

That being said, because I was in Helsinki for several days, it did provide a nice little walk through the woods. But I wouldn't make it a priority on a short visit.

Thank you Tom!

My first priority is seeing the highlights that Are in the RS book. I think if I end up with extra time I will go to the open air museum.
