Hi all,

Yes the 'Santa Claus Express' is just an ordinary VR service train, so is booked through them. There are both day and night trains from Helsinki to Rovaniemi. Technically only the night train is called the Santa Claus Express.
From the Santa Claus Village website- https://santaclausvillage.info/info-and-tips/getting-here-and-moving-around/
there is both a citybus route and various shuttle/private bus routes to the village and two taxi companies-

You can order taxi for example from Taksi Rovaniemi: +358 (0)600 14000 (0 €/call + local network charge + roaming) or download the free Taksi Rovaniemi-app! - https://taksirovaniemi.fi/en/ Another interesting option is Menevä Taksi Rovaniemi, which offers a large number of eco-friendly electric vehicles that can be prebooked online via their application- https://meneva.fi/en/service-areas/lapland/rovaniemi
There is even a new epic flixbus route from Rovaniemi to Krakow (Poland) via Helsinki and the Baltic States.
Great. Thank you very much detailed information.

So, let me see if I'm understanding this. You're going to take an eight hour train trip (or 11 hours for the overnight train) from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, spend a little time at Santa Claus' village, and then take another 8 hour train journey back to Helsinki with no other time in Rovaniemi?
And with two kids in tow?
If you are just going to see Santa Claus' village, may I suggest you consider a flight in one direction.
