Hello,
We will have 2 nights and 1 full day on a layover in Helsinki in Sept of this year. I am wondering if there is a certain part of town that would be recommended for staying that is central, safe, and easy to get to public transpo to get back and forth to the airport. We have an 8 am departure so we need to find a way to get back to the airport before 6 am. Walking distance to interesting sites to see and neighborhood charm is important to us. Also if anyone has an specific rentals for 3 people that they could recommend or transportation tips, that would be helpful also. Thank you in advance!
For an early morning departure I would stay somewhere close to the central station. There are a couple of hotels very close to the station, but if you don't mind a short walk to the train in the morning, I'd suggest staying a bit further south to get a bit closer to the city centre. Like the Scandic at Mannerheimvägen, across the street from Stockmann and the Swedish theatre.
Thank you for your reply. We found a nice little place in the Design District, which seems like a great central area for us to explore and get to and from the airport easily. Looking forward to it!
