HSL App - phone # verification text

You need a Finland phone number to use the app. We bought our public transportation tickets from machines at the stations.

You do not need a Finnish number to use the App. I successfully used it with a UK number. Try without the plus sign?

Ah. You are right. I was able to create an account. The issue is that they won’t accept my United States credit card.

I will try to use it again tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Just to confirm that I had no issues with a non Finnish phone number. I used the app extensively last week with my UK phone number and UK based Mastercard as a payment method.

Is your US card by any chance something like Discover? A US friend of mine found his Discover card didn't work well in Europe. Visa or Mastercard will likely work. I used a UK Visa card with no problems.

Just an fyi for anybody coming to Helsinki. No app needed to use transit. Very easy to buy 1 ride tickets or day or multi day passes at machines at airport and all over town. Enjoy!

Same issue for me. Installed app on USA phone, followed instructions, the app told me it had sent a confirmation code to my USA phone number, never received. Did the usual reboot / clear cache / uninstall / reinstall, no luck. And I had no ability to NOT enter the + sign, since once you tell the app you are in the USA it preloads "+1" in the phone field. And I used a MasterCard, not Discover etc. I guess we will just buy tickets in Helsinki at the machines. No worries. (Also, when I try to message Customer Service in the app, I get a "This request is blocked" message.)

I am also encountering this issue. The correct phone number is in and I've tried everything everyone else is saying to fix the issue. The only thing I can think of is that I have to be in Finland to receive the text? I just wanted to get the account set up before I leave for the trip so I am still in the USA?

I had the same issue in March using a U.S. number. Never succeeded and ended up not needing it.
