Helsinki in July: is air con necessary?

My husband and I will be staying in Helsinki in late July for 2 nights, and I'm wondering if it's necessary to book a hotel with air conditioning? As a woman 'of a certain age' my ideal sleeping environment is a cool one, but if Helsinki is generally cool at night even in July then this wouldn't be an issue. (For reference, we're currently staying at the Home Hotel Katajanokka, which looks amazing--it's a former jail--but doesn't have a/c)

Many thanks, Diana

I wouldn’t worry about excessive heat in Helsinki in July, but excessive daylight is another matter … make sure your hotel has blackout curtains, or bring an eye mask.

I've been to Helsinki three times. (Never in summer.) My hotel claimed to have A/C but didn't really. It was an air cooling system. I asked for a fan.

Now I travel with a small portable fan to help keep me cool while sleeping. (It's also a powerbank and flashlight.)

Thank you Laura, acutor, and Frank II for your helpful replies. I really appreciate it. I always travel with an eye mask, but will remind my husband to do so as well. And yes, I've got a portable fan (and a couple of ice packs) that make the rounds with me. Sounds like we'll probably be okay at the hotel, but I'll give it some more thought. Anyway, thanks again for weighing in.

I was in Helsinki last July and it was quite warm during the day and well into the evening. I was quite glad my hotel had air conditioning. I was on a tour and we stayed at Hotel Haven, a really nice hotel in a great location. It’s part of a group of hotels some of which might be less expensive.

No kidding about the light! I think there was only about three hours of darkness. I loved the liveliness late into the evening, but the blackout curtains/shades were very necessary!
