Helsinki - hotel and public transportation

My husband and I will be in Helsinki in July, arriving at the airport around noon on a Sunday. On Monday, we are taking a day cruise to Tallinn, and we are departing from the Helsinki airport at 7:30 am on Tuesday.

We would like to stay in a hotel in the Kluuvi/Senate Square area for exploring on Sunday, but we need easy access to the port on Monday as well as to the airport early on Tuesday morning.

In looking at the regional transport web site, it appears that the trip via bus from the airport to Kluuvi takes 45 minutes, and that seems too far to make it practical on Tuesday.

Can you suggest a hotel (or area) that would be most efficient for using public transportation allowing us to get to the cruise port and airport? Or, if we took a taxi to and from the airport, would it be easy to get to the cruise port from the Kluuvi area?

Thanks!

Both are very central and downtown Helsinki is not very big. Kluuvi is the area around the train station and Senate Square is near the main church (and closer to the harbor).

I assume you mean "cruise to Tallinn" is actually the ferry. Those depart from the main harbor and can easily be reached by walking (10-15 minutes) or tram. The airport is easily reached by busses that depart from the train station but you'll need to be there so early it might just make sense to have your hotel call a taxi.

During summer, many hotels offer deep discounts if you reserve in advance and you can get a really nice hotel for pretty cheap. But the fares in these cases are non-refundable, no exceptions.
