Finland, Norway and Sweden in a MONTH--Flight question HELP and Must Sees

Hi!
We're off to the arctic circle to see the Northern Lights this late September for our anniversary. To get there we have multiple planes through our trip on FinnAir. We'd like to go all carry-on in case luggage gets lots but how serious are they on weight?!? I think I could pack efficiently but they say on the website your personal item PLUS your carry on COMBINED must be under 17.6 lbs. Do they really weigh all the bags before getting on the plane? How serious are they on this?

We'll be in Tromso, Rovaniemi and Stockholm so any suggestions on Must Sees/Dos? We'll have a rental car in Tromso so we can roam. Restaurants? Sights? Weather? We've got tours planned already in Tromso and Rovaniemi. Staying Downtown Tromso in Air B&B, Appuka Resort in Rovaniemi and hotel in Gamla Stan in Stockholm. THANKS FOR THE HELP!

According to Finnair the maximum combined weight is 8 or 12 kg, depending on your ticket. If your bags are heavier and you're caught at the airport it will cost you €70.

What does your planned trip look like and how much if fixed and how much can be changed? September is a bit early for the Northern lights, although it's far from impossible to see them.

Thanks for the response, Badger. I guess I was just wondering how likely it is that they weigh them? Is it a common occurrence? I've never seen it within the US on the many flights I've taken but don't have much international experience other than maybe 8 flights or so and none had weight restrictions.

Our plans are set for the trip. In all the research I did online, many said the Fall Equinox is a good time to see the Northern Lights. I also liked the idea that costs were way more affordable, most hikes will be open and the all the Fall colors may be on display. We come from a cold climate in WI so I'm good not seeing snow and saving money. Hopefully we see the Aurora Borealis but if not we saw them this May at home and we'll enjoy the new countries. If you have any suggestions for must sees or restaurants if you been to the areas, feel free to throw them out. Thanks much!

I have no data on how often it's done. But yes, airlines do weigh bags sometimes.
