2 Nights in Helsinki

My wife and I will be in Europe for a little over a week next month - first time in many years with no kids! We will arrive to Helsinki via ferry from Stockholm, and we will be there for a short 2.5 days before we head back to the U.S. We are looking for recommendations for sights and off the beaten path things to do. If there are major museums or historical sights that require advance booking, please advise. As of now, we're not planning to visit Tallinn on a day trip, but we're open to the idea. We're staying in the center near Sinebrychoff Park. Also, how much advance travel time should we allow for a 4 pm flight home on a weekend?

The interesting thing about Helsinki airport--I flew out of there last week--is that the baggage xray machines are unmanned. They automatically ding bags that need checking. That means a lot of bags get pulled.

Both my carry on and personal item were pulled. Neither was opened but was put under a different xray machine.

Just like your question about Stockholm, it depends a bit on what you are interested in. Where is home? How much time you need at the airport depends a bit on where you are flying, and if you have checked in luggage.

Tallinn is lovely, but if you're only staying two nights in Finland it might not be the best use of your time.
